Davao Aguilas Partners With Shonan Bellmare

ONE of the country’s top professional football team, the Davao Aguilas will partner with Japan’s top tier J-League team, Shonan Bellmare.

The partnership will be sealed today during a press presentation at the Makati Diamond residences, Legaspi Village, Makati City.

Both teams are expected to seal a deal of partnership promoting the beautiful game and their respective clubs in their own countries.

No other than Davao Aguilas chairman Jefferson Cheng is expected to welcome the visitors at exactly 1130 a.m. in one of the function rooms of the Hotel.

Shonan Bellmare is one of the top tier teams in the J-League having been promoted to the J1 (first division) this season after topping J2 (second division) in 2017.

               

SHONAN BELLMARE IS LOCATED AT HIRATSUKA CITY WEST OF KANAWAGA PREFECTURE SOUTH OF TOKYO.

The club is located in city of Hiratsuka west of Kanagawa Prefecture. Their home stadium is the Shonan BMW stadium. Shonan refers to a coastal area along the Sagami Bay that includes Hiratsuka City.

Bellmare is a combination of Italian words ‘bello’ and ‘mare’ , meaning beautiful sea according to wikipedia.

The club is better known as the producer of Japan’s all time best player Hideyoshi Nakata, known before as the Japanese David Beckham.

The club enjoyed its most successful run during the 1994-95 season with Nakata, Brazilian-born Wagner Lopes and Korean International Hong Myung-Bo.

During that time they won 1994-95 Emperor’s Cup which brought them to the 1996 Asian Cup Winners Cup which they eventually won over Al Talaba of Iraq. 

Four Bellmare players played in the 1998 World Cup in France, Nakata, Lopes and goal keeper Nobuyuki Kojima for Japan while Hong Myung-Bo played for Korea.

The club was founded in 1968 as Tawa Real Estate SC in Nasu, Tochigi. They were promoted to the Japanese Soccer League (the former J-League) Division 1 in 1972. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
