Lapulapu Football Cup set in Cebu City

THE Department of Education (DepEd) Regional 7, Cebu City and the Central Visayas Region Football Association (CVRFA) will hold a football bubble tournament dubbed as the ‘Lapulapu Cup’ next month at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Cebu City DepEd Sports Officer Francis Ramirez said that the organizers recently finalised tournament and inspected the venue and the accomodations for the three-day competition which is scheduled on April 25-27 at the Cebu City Sports Center football field.

Two Cebu City teams Don Bosco Technology Center, Abellana National School and two outside Cebu City, Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu from Mandaue City and Don Bosco Boys Home-Liloan National School from Cebu Province are joining.

According to Ramirez, the bubble type tournament is a pilot test for the on-site Palaro competition for athletes born 2003 and below.

It was finalised recently during the organisational meeting and the inspection of the venues and the accommodations in Cebu City. Present during the meeting were Ramirez, DepEd USEC Revee Escobido, DepEd Region 7 Director Sal Gimenes, and DepEd Region 7 Assistant Director Cristituto Eco,

Palarong Pambansa Secretariat members Joel S. Erastain, Max Abalos, Edward Masukat, DepEd football manager Rufino Arellano, DepEd Palaro Referee In-Charge Dennis Estaniel, Central Visayas Region Football Association (CVRFA) president Engr. Rodney Orale, and member of the organising committee Archie Reyes were also present during the meeting.

The tournament will follow COVID 19 protocol issued by Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) COVID 19 Cebu City head councilor Joel Garganera. (jackbiantan@yahoo.com)
