CAGAYAN de Oro City — Unknown to many, Cagayan de Oro’s Troy Limbo has just come off from a career threatening injury before he made it to the Azkals Development Team FC (ADTFC) which is now seeing action in Qatar Airways Philippine Football League (PFL) mini bubble tournament at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

According to his mom Darlene Uy Limbo, the former Sunderland RCA, England winger, suffered an injury on his left foot during the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 match against China in Malaysia few months before the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG in Manila in December last year.

However he refused treatment because he wanted to play in the SEAGames and Troy just loves to play the beautiful game and serve his country.

According to Troy, because also of hard training the injury became worst and developed into a stress tibia bone fracture which needed surgery.

“He did not want to have an operation during that time because he just really wanted to play in the SEAGames and just really love to play football,’’ his mom Darlene Limbo said.

However after the SEAGames and Christmas Holidays the pain from his left leg was already unbearable and he decided to have it checked by a specialist at the Cardinal Santos Hospital, the premier rehabilitation center in the country located in San Juan City.

No less than the chief Sports Injury surgeon of the hospital, Dr. George Eufemio saw him and operated on his tibia fracture immediately.

TROY IS ROLLED OUT OF THE RECOVERY ROOM AFTER THE OPERATION

The suspension of the Philippine Football League (PFL) because of the Covid 19 pandemic (PFL was supposed to start in March) was a blessing in disguise as it allowed Troy to recover and undergo rehab in Manila.

He was also monitored by his the Strength and Conditioning coach from Sunderland UK, Martin Nugent who provided his continous guide in his post injuries recovery program.

When he was back on the pitch Troy also got some help from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) best Physical Therapist John Morado, who helped him a lot in his recovery process.

Mrs. Limbo also gives credit to the PFF and to the Azkals Development Team FC (ADTFC) under Dan Palami who helped Troy in his surgery and his recovery.

But most importantly Mrs. Limbo said she is thanking God for giving strength to Troy and for his help in his comeback.

TROY IN ACTION AGAINST KAYA IN THE PFL

She also praises Troy for his hard work and seriousness in his therapies and recovery. “Troy religiously follows his doctor, therapist and his coaches that is why he back on the pitch again,’’ Mrs. Limbo said.

She added that Troy is not 100 percent fit yet but “We are hoping that 100 per cent recovery, a perfectly fit body, great strength and condition to play at the highest level will be his in all God’s Perfect Time.’’

Troy has started in their 0-1 loss to Kaya FC. He played in the second half in their 2-0 win over Mendiola FC. As of this writing ADT are playing against Maharlika FC. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
