DESPITE of the Corona virus threat, kids from 17 public schools all over Negros Occidental defied the odds to enjoy the one day Liga Eskwela Futsal Festival held in March 8, 2020, at the Panaad Park and Stadium Court, in Bgry. Mansalingan, Bacolod City Negros Occidental.
The festival was organised by Ricky Yanson’s Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) and the Department of Education Region 6.
It was sponsored by The Henry Moran Foundation, Gawad Kalinga, MVP Foundation, Toby’s Sport, Abanse Negrense/Province of Negros Occidental and La Salle Greenhills Batch ’93.
Medals and trophies were at stake in the three divisions, of the competition among 12U Boys and Girls, and the 10U Mixed.
NOFA General Secretary Cocoy Treyes organised the tournament. He led the giving out of trophies and medals to the winners with The Henry Moran Foundation CEO Danny Moran.
Miranda Elementary School of Pontevedra Elementary School won captured the 10U Mixed Boys and Girls title while second place is Apolinario Mabini School of Bacolod City while third was Bata Elementary School also of Bacolod.
In the 12U Boys category, ND Tupas Elementary School of San Erique Elementary School won the title, second was Himamaylan Elementary School and third was Cadiz West Elementary School.
Miranda Elementary School of Pontevedra also won the 12U girls title, second was the Angela L. Colmenares School of Hinigaran, while third was Lag-Asan Elementary Schoo of Bago City.
Moran also gave out certificates of participation to Joenah Mae Palermo, Merah M. Oselliva, Ian Mar O. Galusong, Mark Anthony Yap, Daryl L. Ban, Lanie Joy J. Jeruta, Lany S. De Los Reyes, Ronelyn A. Gaudiel, and Ramon Salvador Macainan.
The Liga Eskwela is a project of THMF and Gawad Kalinga with the Department of Education for public schools.
According to THMF CEO Danny Moran aside from Bacolod City, they have done the National Capital Region, and Baguio.
The Marawi, Cebu, Iloilo and Laguna legs of the competition has been postponed because of the Corona Virus that has plague the entire country.
Moran however promised to resume the project once the Corona virus is gone. “We will hold it some time next school year,’’ he said. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
