CAGAYAN DE ORO City— The Cagayan de Oro Secondary girls of coach Paul Cabio barged into the semis of the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Girls Futsal competition after sweeping three opponents in the elimination round at the Baroy Cultural Center in Baroy, Lanao del Norte.

The Pinay In Action Bulua Fiesta Futsal Festival Open category champion topped the elimination round with three wins and arranged a show down against Bukidnon in the semis Wednesday morning (Dec. 11, 2019).

PIA Bulua Fiesta Futsal Festival Girls 17 champion Ozamiz City also barged into the semis with two wins and one draw record.

The girls of coach James Dela Vega won over Misamis Oriental 8-3, Ginggoog City 5-3 and drew with Misamis Occidental.

They will face Valencia City of Bukidnon in the other semis clash.

Players from St. Mary’s School of Macasandig form the core group of the CdO team and are beefed up by players from Xavier University and Bulua National High School.

The Oro girls showed their worth from the start beating Tangub City in their first match 11-2, and Iligan 6-0. They then completed their elimination round sweep with a 9-0 route of Malaybalay City of Bukidnon to insure their place in the semis.

‘Super striker’ Chantal Van Ommeren of St. Mary’s School of Macasandig, once again led the CdO girls scoring a total of 10 goals.

The daughter of Edward Van Ommeren and Sally Paras Van Ommeren scored four goals each against Tangub City, and Malaybalay City and two goals against Iligan City to lead the tournament in scoring.

Alexa Cristy Cailing and Bianca Razon booted in two goals against Tangub City while Angel Kaye Buendia, Faye Ramirez and Liezel Ann Catamco added one goal each.

The Tangub City girls of coach Jozen Anthony dela PeŇa managed to insert two goals courtesy of Edche Dayrit.

Against Iligan City, Razon also scored two goals while Zippy Medalla and Chavez added one goal each.

Chavez also chipped in two goals against Malaybalay while Catamco, Buendia and Medalla added one goal each.

Winners in the semis will advance to the battle for gold medal on Thursday while the losers will fight for the bronze.
