CAGAYAN DE ORO City— THE Bukidnon Elementary boys team composed of players from Manolo Fortich town needed a second half charge to eliminate a strong Cagayan de Oro side 2-0, in the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) regional meet at the Lanao del Norte Central High School in Baroy, Lanao del Norte.

The Mindanao Cup and Luzon Cup champions of coach Guillier Sumampong capitalised on the defensive errors of the Oro kids to top Group A and insure their semis place despite of still having one match in the elims against lowly Ozamiz City.

“We stayed wide because my striker Kurbe Dairo was marked by 2-3 players. That created an opening and then my central midfielder Jim Fabela found AJ Marzan open,’’ said coach Sumampong.

Marzan then scored the ice breaker after a one-on-one with the CdO goalkeeper to put them ahead. Fabela, the Luzon Cup MVP, then completed his whole around performance with another assist to Dairo who then blasted the second goal of the match from 20 meters.

The CdO kids led by the Rosevale boys Gio Gumban, Ethan Vistan and the boys from Bongbongan Elementary School Darryn Pagasian, Jefferson Datahan, and Jian Carlo Esoy tried to push hard to stage a comeback.

Their efforts however were not enough as the Bukidnon defenders Deshawn Taal, Nino Facturanan, Adriel Algodon Rolly Ortiz, Clint Blanca and goalkeeper Jun Melig put on a solid defence to insure their win.

The CdO kids of coach Rowen Clemena are now back in Cagayan de Oro as it would be impossible for Ozamiz to win over Bikidnon. Cagayan de Oro blasted Ozamiz City 13-0 in their opening match last Friday.

Meanwhile the CdO Girls Futsal team of coach Paul Cabio recorded two wins in the first day of action in the Girls Secondary Futsal competition also held at the Lanao del Norte Central High School.

They blasted Tangub City 11-2, and then whipped Iligan City 6-0 to assure their place in the semis. The CdO girls has only Malaybalay to play against in the elimination round in Group A before the semis.

The Iligan City Girls stayed in contention when they survived Malaybalay 7-4. Malaybalay also downed Tangub City 6-1.

Ozamiz City of coach James Del Vega had an auspicious debut in Group B by defeating Misamis Oriental 8-3.

Ginggoog City and Misamis Occidental ended their match in a 6-6 draw also in Group B. Bukidnon defeated Lanao del Norte 7-1 in Group (l.biantan@gmail.com
