CORPUS CHRISTI SECONDARY BOYS TEAM ARE TOUGH TO BEAT IN THE CAGAYAN DE ORO MEET SET AT THE END OF THIS MONTH.
THE powerhouse Corpus Christi School Secondary football team has become tougher for the coming Cagayan de Oro city and remains heavily fovored to advance to the Northern Mindanao Region Athletic Association (MNRAA) meet set set in December in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
This after the Corpus boys rolled past the the South District meet rival St. Mary’s School of Macasandig without dropping a sweat.
The SMS boys showed up with only six players forcing the organisersto declare CCS winner by forfeiture and gaining the right to represent the South District in the CdO City meet set at the end of this month.
Despite of failing to test their strength, the CCS boys are very strong on paper. They have kept at least 12 players who have played in the Palaro last summer in Davao City.
Then they have signed three former Rosevale School stars that have made their line-up solid. Coach Marc Racines has also bolstered their lineup by including SMS reliable defender Eugene Areola.
“The team is improving each day and now our new acquisitions have made us stronger,’’ said coach Marc Racines.
Led by former Philippine U16 team member Josh ‘Chong’ Go, the Davao Palaro veterans include Geo Tacandong, MJ Hojas, James Macorro, Thomas Marfori, Blake Carrera, Aeron Subesa, Rafi Rubio, Marben Palma and Jesse Bajarla.
Coach Marc has also acquired from Rosevale School Ino Butaslac, July Vicente, and Joshua Montesino to bolster the team and make them the top contender.
Completing the line-up are young brothers Donn Ebuña and Andre Ebuña plus the lone reinforcement from St. Mary’s School Eugene Areola.
The CCS are expected once again rival Rosevale School in the City meet. Rosevale School this school year has been plague by the exodus of their key players to other schools but still advanced to the City meet after beating Xavier University High School.
Meanwhile the Corpus Christi Elementary team also barged into the City meet after winning over Xavier University Macasandig, 3-1.
XU scored the first goal but then Palaro veteran Carsten Yañez to equalise. Jr. Sanico and Luke Columna then scored one goal each to assure their march to the City meet.
Coach Wilbert Racines, father of Marc, still has to name his final line-up.“We will try our best in the City meet. I have a very young team but the boys are working hard to have a decent performance in the City meet,’’ Wilbert Racines said.
They are expected also to meet tough competition from Rosevale School, Pagatpat Elementary School and early favorite Kauswagan Elementary School. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
