SIMONE ROTA (R) WITH JAMES YOUNGHUSBAND
Davao Aguilas FC (DAFC) invites Davaoeno fans of the professional football club to the special screenings of the documentary “Journeyman Finds Home: The Simone Rota Story” on July 10 (Tuesday), 4:00 pm at SM Lanang in Davao City, and on July 11 (Wednesday), 4:00 pm at Citymall in Tagum City.
Admission to these screenings is free. These are a joint project of DAFC, SPEARS Films, Davao Football Association, and the North Davao Regional Football Association (DavNor RFA), Inc.
Viewers will have a chance to meet DAFC players led by Phil Younghusband, James Younghusband and Simone Rota, at the fan sessions after the screenings.
As an added treat, attendees of the screenings will also be treated to invites to the Davao Aguilas FC match versus Bacolod Ceres FC that will be held on July 14 at the Tagum Sports Center.
“Journeyman Finds Home: The Simone Rota Story” reveals the search off Filipino-Italian footballer Simone Rota to find his roots. He was abandoned as a baby and adopted by an Italian couple. He grew up in Italy and learned to play football.
After stints in European clubs, Rota journeyed to the Philippines to search for his biological mother and try his luck with the Azkals. In spite of physical, cultural and personal difficulties, Rota achieved a success that displayed his good heart and tenacity of spirit.
Directed by Albert Almendralejo and Maricel Cariaga, “Journeyman…” has won numerous recognitions including the Documentary Jury Prize at the 2018 Sinag Maynila Film Festival where it was cited for its “rare depiction of the innate goodness in people, which comes less frequently at a time when the world is becoming more jaded and cynical.” The film was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
Special guests at the July 10 and 11 screenings are the adolescent girls of the Tambayan Center for Center for Children’s Rights (an NGO working with young girls living in Davao City’s urban poor communities), and the grassroots players of football clubs based in the cities of Davao and Tagum.
“Simone’s life is well captured and it is inspiring,” Renato Cosmod of the North Davao Regional Football Association said of the film. “Discovering his story will inspire kids to work harder to excel in this beautiful game of football with the hope that someday their dreams to play in the national team will come true,” he added.
