CAGAYAN DE ORO City –The Henry V. Moran Foundation of former National Football team player Danny Moran has lined-up three grassroots Futsal tournaments here in Mindanao for 2020 with two of them scheduled for Cagayan de Oro City.
SM Grassroots Futsal competition, the Allianz Futsal Invitational will kick off here during the coming summer holidays while Marawi City in Lanao del Sur will host Liga Eskwela according to Gawad Kalinga executive Marlyn Importante in a meeting with local organisers here recently.
These competitions will be organised with the help of Charitable Institution Gawad Kalinga, local Football Associations and the Department of Education she added.
The SM Grassroots Futsal tournament will be for boys and girls 10 years old and below and eight years and below. The Allianz Futsal will be for boys and girls 14 years and below and 16 years and below.
The SM and Allianz tournaments are open to all club and school teams with the champions advancing to the national championships.
Organisers are now asking clubs and teams in Mindanao to prepare their players for the tournaments. The guidelines will be out soon.
The Liga Eskwela in Marawi City is set to start late this month or early next month. Initially, the Moran Foundation kicked off the Liga Eskwela with the first phase of the project with a coaches training of the teachers of the Marawi Department of Education division last Oct. 18-19 at the Amai Pakpak Elementary School covered court.
After the training, the teachers were asked to form their teams and by this time they have prepared their teams to join the Liga Eskwela.
Importante said that they plan to start the Liga with a Futsal Festival among the more than 30 elementary public schools. The final dates of the festival and the tournament proper will be announced later. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
