The lions from Mendiola didn’t let the stallions from Laguna ran past them as they kept them scoreless and prevent them from moving to their place in their most recent encounter at the Biñan Football Stadium.
Despite giving their squad a rotational boost by putting Jeongchol Park and Edris-Nasser Najm in the mix, it wasn’t enough to take all three points at home.
Give credit to both squads’ defensive line and some poor finishing, the game did not spark too much action but it was still worth watching. The travelling side was missing the services of their current top goalscorer, Ashley Flores, but this is where Roberto “Pafu” Corsame Jr. steps up.
He’s been pivotal upfront for Mendiola as he kept exploiting the defensive lapses of Stallion Laguna. He even came close to scoring in the second half only to find himself being called for a foul after a challenge on Hayeson Pepito.
Speaking of Pepito, it was a dream game that he had as well as he kept a clean sheet for Stallion Laguna FC. He’s made his way back into the starting lineup after giving way for their new signing Nelson Gasic over the last three games.
The match might’ve seen some fantastic performances from the likes of Pepito and Corsame, it was not enough to produce some interest. Mendiola FC 1991 will now head into the international break with 11 points while Stallion Laguna FC will square off with Green Archers United to gun for the solo third spot on Saturday, August 31.
