THE Cagayan de Oro girls need to win all their matches Wednesday (Aug. 28) in the Batang Pinoy U15 Futsal National Championships to stay in contention after they split their opening day matches Monday at the Western Philippines University in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Bulua National High School reliable Liezel Catamco, who plays anchor and at the flank for coach Dhon Lazo, led the CdO girls with two goals in their 4-2 debut win over Naga City.
Catamco scored her goals in the first half while skipper Mikaella Lazo of Xavier University and striker Malaika Chavez of St. Mary’s School cemented their win with one goal each in the second half.
It was however not all good news for the CdO girls as they bowed to powerhouse San Carlos City team of Negros Occidental, 3-1, in their second match.
They need to win both their matches against host Puerto Princesa and Dasmarinas of Cavite to stay in contention for the semis.
Malaika Chavez scored the lone goal for the CdO after they trailed by two goals at halftime.If they win both games they will play against the top teams in Group A. Teams in Group A are Davao, Zamboanga City, Mandaluyong, and Palawan.
Other members of the CdO Girls team are Chavonne Uyof St. Mary’s School , Fatima Arcadio of Rosevale School, Kahlista Kaamino of Rosevale School, Jewel Actub of St. Mary’s Academy, Marie Sebial of Bulua National High Scholl, Gail Loking of St. Mary’s School, Ellalaine Micabalo of Lumbia National High School and Norjean Palates of Canitoan National High School.
