PFL 2019: Second-half surge fuels Green Archers United past Air Force

Green Archers United FC used a big second-half offensive surge to defeat Philippine Air Force FC, 3-0 as the Philippines Football League (PFL) continued earlier at the Binan Football Stadium.

A brace from Marvin Angeles, highlighted by a well-timed bicycle kick and an impressive long-range chip goal from fullback Ronnie Aguisanda lifted the Archers to victory, coming off their 0-0 draw with Stallion Laguna last Wednesday.

Both squads looked off the pace in an dull and uneventful first half, as neither side were able to impose their mark in the match. The Archers proved to get the closer chances at goal through their forward Christian Zubiri, whose shot on goal in the 5th minute was blocked by the Airmen in defense. Three minutes later, he provided a cheeky back heel pass to release Paolo Bugas but his shot was dealt with by Air Force goalkeeper John Kent Delariarte.

In the second half, chances started to come as the match opened up. The Airmen got an opportunity as Dar Poderoso was able to get away in the left wing but his shot was parried by the Archers’ shotstopper Ray Joyel.

The first goal in the 69th minute came from a blunder by Delariarte, who made a faulty throw straight at Green Archers winger Kim Hyun Kyoon in the right wing, who provided a perfectly weighted cross for Angeles to score his first goal.

Angeles doubled the lead nine minutes later in an early Goal of the Season contender fashion, as he produced a spectacular bicycle kick goal from a Rederick Fornis free kick, leaving Delariarte and the Air Force defense rooted to their spots.

Not done yet, Aguisanda showed that he can score a spectacular goal too as he was able to produce a lobbed shot from just inside their own half at 84 minutes. Caught off his line, Delariarte tried to save it but he was a moment late and the ball sailed straight down to goal.

Kim almost added a fourth goal in added time after slicing through the Air Force defense in the right side and beating Delariarte, but substitute defender Jake Hugo produced a goal-line clearance to prevent further humiliation for Air Force.

The Archers move up to second in the table after the win, while the Airmen still remain without a victory so far in their campaign.
