Cebu City Not Ready To Host A PFL Club Yet

CEBU CITY SPORTS CENTER PITCH TODAY

PHILIPPINE Air Force FC main supporter Keith Buyco wants Cebu City to be its home but as of the moment the Queen City of the South is not ready yet to host any Philippine Football League club.

LEYLAM FC’S DYNAMIC HERB-BORROMEO SPORTS COMPLEX’  FIFA STANDARD ARTIFICIAL TURF IS NOW READY BUT THE BLEACHERS ARE NOT.

This after Leylam FC owner Ugur Tasci announced to local media that his Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex facilities at the South Reclamation Project (SRP) is not yet ready until late this year.

Work for the multi-million peso Phase 1 of the project which include the Fifa standard artificial turf pitch is still on going.

The facilities will be ready by September and work for the 2nd Phase of the project which includes the multi purpose arena will follow.

The Philippine Football League opened last Saturday May 25, at the Rizal Memorial stadium and Tasci’s announcement dashed the hopes of the Airmen of having Cebu as their home. The other venue Buyco was considering was the Cebu City Sports Center.

However, the main football pitch in Cebu city needs complete rehabilitation as the administration of the outgoing mayor Tomas Osmeña has neglected the facility. The CCSC pitch have been trampled, rolled by thousands of motorbikes, stomped by thousands of feet, damaged by various political and religious  events, and concerts.

Former Cebu Football Association (CFA) president Ricky Dakay and now Central Visayas Regional Football Association (CVRFA) president Rodney Orale fixed the pitch into standard level in 2012 to allow the Azkals to play two friendlies in Nov. 15, 2012 against Singapore and in April 27, 2014 against Malaysia.

Dino Musni, who worked for Dakay and Orale in fixing the pitch in 2012, said that the CCSC also needs more lights. The current lights are not enough to host a PFL match or any international match at night.

The Cebu football community have to wait for the Leylam FC’s Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sport Complex to be finished to enjoy professional and International matches again. Unless of course the administration of new Cebu City mayor Edgardo Labella spends real money to fix the CCSC.  (l.biantan@gmail.com)
