AFTER escaping Northern Mindanao in the semis, Central Visayas of coach Glen Ramos made sure this time to bring home the Palaro gold medal in the elementary boys football when they nipped rival Western Visayas at the University of the Philippines pitch in Mental, Davao City.

Reinforcement from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, James Louiel Comon, of the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Cebu manned team, scored the first goal for the Cebuanos. DBTC’s Renzo Angelo Enriguez then sealed the victory. 

The Barotac Nuevo manned Western Visayas of Iloilo, threatened to catch-up when the Ilonggos scored in the second half.

The Cebuanos however held on to avenge their loss last year also to a Western Visayas team from Bacolod.

It was actually the third meeting in a row in the battle for gold between the regions in elementary football. Central Visayas defeated Western Visayas in 2017 in Antique while CVIRAA lost last year in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

“We succeeded in our game plan. We pressed and we applied our transition counter attack and stay focused in our compact defending. We also closed mark their key players,’’ said Glen Ramos after their victory.

He added that he I really happy of his third appearance in the Palaro battle for gold. “We just missed last year but this time we are really the champions,’’ he said.

The team is manned by players from the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) with pick-ups from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), Paref Springdale, Looc Elementary School in Lapu-Lapu and St. Paul of Dumaguete.

Other members of the team from DBTC are Rhyss Christopher Abao, Lord Daniel Alovera, Rayne Asher Amora, John Lexter Conde, Czar Robert Daanoy, Kurt Justine Barro, Lehron Ezekiele Lao, Allister Louis Manlosa, Mark Anthony Talingting Jr., Jayzon Genson, Fernando Jayme Pasco; Jared Willy Almendras and Marco Anton Quiblatin of SHS-AdC; Eugene Christian Molleno and Ethan Jacob Roxas of Paref Sprindale; David lance Ybañez of Looc and Kenneth Bilocura of Dumaguete.   Assistant coach is Ray Calo.

The CVIRAA booters advanced to the battle for gold when they escaped past a very strong Northern Mindanao team 2-1 in a very controversial semis match.

The referee according to reports failed to call an off side goal for the CVIRAA boys but called offside for a goal of the NMRAA.

In the battle for third Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) took the bronze when it nipped Northern Mindanao in a penalty shootout.

Kenneth Ace Niaga scored the first goal of the match when he converted a free kick.

Western Visayas, however, scored an equaliser in the 47th minute and the game-winner in the 51st minute.

The silver silver medal finish is a good finish for USJ-R, which is representing Central Visayas in secondary football for the first time.

The team was also beefed up by players from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), University of San Carlos (USC), Abellana National School (ANS) and Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH).

Other USJ-R players in the lineup are Dustin Drey Ramirez, Januar James Villarin, Renz Miko Murillo, Christian Vierh Agot, Jan Ian Piolo Alinsugay, Churchill Jubac, Angelo Colina, Louis Adrian Colina, Franco dela Torre, Arcangelo Manlosa, Carmelo Lim and JC Miguel Banzon.

The reinforcements are Jascha Tabar of USC; John Veloso of SHS-AdC; Glen Ladin Dabon of ANS; and Delhonor Maglasang and Junrey Calimposan of DBBH.
