In the sixth edition of their “Play It Forward” football clinic, Telus International, spearheaded by their very own Telus Football Club who plays in the Corporate Football League provided a healthy dose of training for the kids who want to play the beautiful game.
They might be working silently to help the improvement of the game in the Philippines but they surely made this a memorable one. The culminating event of their “Play it Forward” campaign seems to be a fitting one as they conducted it at the Quezon City Memorial Circle which saw a couple of grassroots football events like the Laos FC Street Soccer Invitational.
Throughout the course of their six-week football program, Telus Football Club went to various barangays in Quezon City to teach the kids the fundamentals they need to play the game. “We have been teaching through these six weeks. Different skills that you learn through football and also values you learn by practising the sport” said by Carlos Giammattei, Telus International’s director for marketing and communications regarding their company’s initiative.
The said culminating event also saw two of the brightest teams Brgy. Sto. Cristo and Brgy. Katipunan battle for the championship where Brgy. Katipunan edged out the boys from Sto. Cristo by just a 2-1 goal margin. It was a close battle until the final whistle.
“I think soccer is a great sport, it helps you bring in companionship and collaboration. I think if multiple organizations, not only those who are governing the soccer discipline, would come together start practising this sport more, we could have, not only greener spaces, but also different sports that brings together lots of values that they can learn while playing the sport,” added by Giammattei when asked about their contributions to the grassroots program in the country.
The kids got to see some professional football players as Jerry Barbaso, Fritz Brigoli and their latest signing Levi Gilmar di Silva from Global Makati FC graced the event together with their manager Mark Jarvis. The players also gave some inspiring words to the kids that would help them embrace the sport even more.
