MORE than a year ago, the Kauswagan Falcons FC was founded from humble beginnings using the small Bongbongan Elementary School field in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental.
Founder and coach Marlon Merlin started the club with only 15 players aged 6-9 years old. Now, the club has grown and now more than 30 new players have started training since the summer holidays have started.

More new players have come to register for the second part of their training starting on Easter Sunday. “For this summer camp, the players will undergo intense training until they will become bonafide members of the Kauswagan Falcons FC,’’ said Merlin, a Pharmacist and a graduate of Centro Escolar University in Manila.
He is thankful to all the the club officers and his assistant coach Kieth H. Salido for all the support and sacrifices for the club. ”Without their all out support, we could not be successful’’ he added.
Officers of the KFFC are President Hercris A. Bongbong, Vice President Janiel M. Lgo, Secretary Adora A. Merlin RPh, Treasurer Ilcie T. Lama, Auditor Mary Ann Devilleres, while other members of the board are Jehannah E. Sta. Rita, and Kim Labor. Team consultant is Cesar D. Racuma.
The club was founded only in April 15 of last year and has already started making a name in the local football scene. The Falcons have represented Kauswagan in the DepEd District meet, Milo Little Olympics, DepEd Division meet, and various local football festivals like the Lotto Xavier Cup, Kuyamis Football Festival, and the Rosevale Cup.

Merlin was a football varsity member of Capitol University and represented the Region X in the national PRISAA and Palarong Pambansa during his younger years.
He is presently a part time professor of the Lourdes College of Pharmacy Faculty and Liceo University College of Pharmacy. He was also the OIC Dean of the College of Pharmacy of the Medina College in Ozamis City.
He now works full time as Pharmacist of RXS D/S and Medical Supplies.
Merlin is also active in affairs of barangay Kausawagan being the focal person of its Council for Children Protection and the development coordinator of its Child Life Skills Development group. He is also the president of the Kauswagan School Governing Council.
He is married to Adora Merlin RPh, with whom he has two children and are all playing for the Kauswagan Falcons FC.
Local football need persons like Merlin who serves the community and make a difference to the lives of young children without expecting any financial gains. What coach Merlin does in Kauswagan is a tough deed to follow. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
