CARMONA, CAVITE AND MUNTINLUPA CITY (APRIL 9, 2019) – Apuesto Bueno and Green Archers United (GAU) stamped their class over their opposition in the opening games of the U17 age group in the continuing 2019 Speed Regalo Youth Football League (YFL) season at the Manila Jockey Club on Tuesday.
Apuesto Bueno crushed Atletico Diliman, 11-0, while GAU defeated Ceres South, 6-0 to lead winners for the match day even as play resumed at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa for the U13 and below divisions.
Apuesto Bueno’s head coach Aye gave his assessment on their victory, saying: “In the first 10 minutes some of the players, they wanted to score individually but we emphasized attacking, defending, and moving together as a team. Next game we need to improve consistency.”
GAU U17 Head Coach Manji Marcellana was similarly pleased with their result, but also identified points for improvement.
“Siguro yung improvement namin first yung strength ng defense line, tsaka yung distribution and finishing. Marami kasing chances na hindi na completo,” he said.
A closely-fought U17 encounter ensued between Young Pinoy and G8 Academy with the prior prevailing 2-1. Despite Young Pinoy dominating play from the get-go, G8 held on to a goalless scoreline in the first 45 minutes.
Ceres North and Laos also kicked off their respective campaigns with two-goal victories over GOM 2002 (2-0) and Loyola (3-1), respectively.
“In the start of the season it’s important to get the first win kasi it spells everything. It’s a good start [to the season] getting this game,” said a pleased Ceres North U17 head coach Freddie Estacion on the after the match.
Malaya also edged Kaya Elite ‘02-’03, 4-3 in a high-scoring affair while Mendiola and GOM 2003 settled for a 2-all draw.
U13 action saw Atletico Diliman and Laos Valenzuela battle to a 5-4 thriller with the former just prevailing. In what proved to be an action-packed game, both teams found themselves still level at the half, 3-all before Atletico Diliman seized the lead.
In other results, DFU dispatched Forza, earning a 5-nil clean sheet; Ceres North edged Laos QC, 1-0, after getting an early lead while Kaya Elite ‘06-’07 played to a 2-2 draw against GAU with all goals coming from an action-packed second half.
Last but not the least, Loyola banked on an inspired performance that saw them pull away from Ceres South in the latter stages to take victory, 5-2.
In the U11 division, Ceres South and Laos FC played out to an even first half after both teams scored a goal each. However, Laos FC pulled away in the second half to notch the win, 4-2.
In the other U11 match-up, Kaya FC 2008 asserted its dominance over Bohemian Sporting Club with 5 first half goals. Kaya scored three more goals in the second half with Bohemian pulling one back for themselves in the scintillating 8-1 result.
Malaya Red also had a taste of victory after winning three goals to one against a promising Loyola FC side.
The first half saw Malaya scoring a goal against the opposition; Loyola tried to get back into the second half after getting a goal but the prior just proved to be the winning side after getting two goals to bring home the W.
Kaya FC continued their winning run in the U11s as its 2009 team defeated G8 Academy via three goals to one.
The showdown between the Greatwich brothers’ football programs saw Kaya leading two goals to nil in the first half before G8 pulling a goal back in the second half. It was not enough though as Kaya FC 2009 slotted in the marginal goal to seal the victory.
The last game in the U11 division saw Forza FC keeping their two-goal advantage in the first half to win the match 3-1 against Malaya Gold.
In the U9 division, G8 Academy kicked things off with a dominating 9-nil win over Laos FC. They got their groove on early in the first half as they slotted seven goals before the halftime interval then coming back in the second half to score two more.
In the other matchup, Forza Team 2 won by a slim 2-nil lead over Bohemian Sporting Club where they scored a goal in each half. Through their composure, they were able to hold off BSC’s efforts for a comeback.
Aspire also notched a win against Loyola after a tight encounter. Both teams had their fair share of goals in the first half with both teams going into the halftime break, 1-1. However, Aspire scored the marginal goal in the second half to bring home all three points.
Just like the U11s, Kaya FC’s 2010 squad also proved to be too much to handle and won 5-0 over Ceres North. Kaya FC 2010 started slow in the first half as they only scored one goal but they opened the floodgates in the second half to score four more and seal the win. Ceres South needed to wait until the second half to score over Malaya Gold and seal the win in what was a tight match.
Forza Team 1 made sure it won over MSA Agila in convincing fashion. Forza scored five goals in the first half before making sure they get another goal later on while keeping a clean sheet.
Meanwhile, Forza blazed past Bohemian Sporting Club for a 10-nil rout, the biggest margin of victory in the U7 division. Forza scored five goals in the first half to prove their dominance over the opposition before slotting five more in the second half to get their most convincing win so far in the season.
Ceres South kicked things off with a victory against Aspire (4-1). It was a close first half between the two where the prior scored only two goals in the first half. Aspire pulled one back in the second half but Ceres South made sure they slotted two more goals and win all three points.
Their counterparts Ceres North also won their matchup against G8 Academy after getting a goal in the first half and keeping their opponents at bay to keep a clean sheet and bring home the bacon.
Loyola FC and G8 Academy played out a close encounter on the other hand. The first half saw both teams scoring a goal each before a much-heated encounter in the second. Loyola came out as the victors as they won three goals to two.
Ceres North and South got their victories in the U7 division as Ceres North notched a 4-1 win over Aspire while Ceres South proved to be dominant against Malaya via the nine-goal route.
Loyola FC notched a victory over Bohemian Sporting Club after blanking them six goals to nil. The final match of the U7s saw Forza FC taming Kaya FC 2012 after they won five goals to nil.

About the Philippine Youth Football League:
The Philippine Youth Football League (YFL) is the biggest youth football competition in the country founded in 2017 by Football Alliance as an offspring of the former United Football League (UFL)-Youth.
