RECENTLY elected president of the new Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) (formerly Cebu Football Association) Engr. Rodney Orale, has big steps to follow as the successor to the highly successful reign of former CFA president Engr. Ricky Dakay.
CVFA FIRST BOG MEETING AT THE CVFA OFFICE.
But Orale, an ardent supporter of the beautiful game in the Queen City of the South, is an efficient worker and is a fitting replacement for Dakay. Dakay recommended Orale as his to replacement.
Dakay served for one term but was extended for two years to complete the new statutes and form the new organisation which is CVFA to replace CFA.
Orale is in fact one of the hardest worker in the previous board and the CVFA Congress recognised his hard work by electing him as one of the members of the Board of Governors (BOG) last March 2. He was then voted as president by the BOG in their first meeting last April 1.
He was the head of the referees committee and he did a good job in uniting two football referees factions in Cebu. He then helped them organise referees courses, and the recruitment of young referees.
Right now Cebu has more than 50 referees in three different levels, probably the most number in any local FA’s. That is because of the hard work of Orale with the support of the former CFA BOG and president Dakay.
Dakay became CFA president in 2012 replacing then president Richard Montayre.
Orale has lined up more projects in his term and and plans to develop the sports of Futsal and Beach Football. He also wants to spread the gospel of the beautiful game in the island province of Bohol which is also a member of the CVFA.
He said that he did not hesitate when he accepted the responsibility because of the support of Dakay and the Cebu football community.
“I follow the same purpose of our former president Engr. Dakay, which is to serve the football community so that Cebu will be known for football, as what they say we are doing this for the ‘for the love of the game of football, said the owner of the Erich Rafael Construction (ERCO).
Orale and vice president Nimrod Quiñones are the only remaining officers from the previous administration who have been elected to the current CVFA board.

Adriano Ocariza SVD.
Lawyer Julius Ceasar Entice was appointed as General Secretary.
Two committees, the Audit Committee and and Women’ Football Committee still need to be filled up.
Orale is actually from the town of Oras, Eastern Samar. He finished his Civil Engineering degree at Samar State University in Catbalogan City, Samar. He is married to Cebuana, Yardley Go with whom he is blessed with three children, Erich Rafael, Carlos Miguel, and Bea Ernestine.
His eldest son Erich Rafael was a former Philippine National Youth team player and now plays for the University of Sto. Thomas in the UAAP. Carlos Miguel studies and also plays football for Don Bosco Technology College in Cebu.
His love for the beautiful game actually started during his elementary and high school days when he used to play barefoot football. This stopped when he pursued his Engineering Degree at Samar State University.

His love for football re-ignited again in 2006 when he enrolled his eldest son Erich Rafael at Don Bosco Technology College. DBTC is one of the few schools in the country today where football is part of their culture and curriculum.
His son asked is permission if he could play football. He said yes and that was the start of his endless love affair for the beautiful game. At DBTC, he worked with coach Glen Ramos and another parent and football fanatic Keith Buyco to form the BRO Nationals and the ERCO Football Club.
With Ramos and Buyco, they spearheaded the football program at DBTC and even organised clinics for Catbalogan City after typhoon Yolanda.
He started to get involve with the local FA when he was invited by Dakay to be a member of the CFA BOG. Upon the advise of former DBTC sports director Bro. Marie Aberasturi, he accepted the challenge and they say the rest is history. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
