HOME OF THE DAVAO AGUILAS
DAVAO AGUILAS Football Club, the only professional football club in Mindanao, is indeed serious in the business of football in our country.
And they announced their seriousness Sunday when they revealed to the public the start of the development of their Davao Aguilas Sports Center in barangay Mandug in the district of Buhangin, Davao City.
THE PROJECT IS LOCATED IN THE CUIDADES ESTATES DEVELOPMENT IN MANDUG, BUHANGIN DISTRICT SOME 20 MINUTES AWAY NORTH OF DAVAO CITY AIRPORT.
Renowned architect of the project, Ike Madamba, announced during the Davao Aguilas partnership ceremony with Shonan Bellmare FC of Japan that the project have already started and is scheduled to be finished next year.

“Jeff and I used to play football 40 years ago in the mud field of the University of the Philippines. At that time the now PFF president Nonong Araneta was a senior and we would just admire the guy with then Mr. Football of the Philippine Bert Honasan during those days in UP,’’ Madamba shared his younger days of playing the beautiful game.
“Football is an interesting game and call for an interesting home. Let me introduce to you to the home of the Davao Aguilas, the Davao Aguilas Sports Center.’’
BARANGAY MANDUG IN DAVAO CITY
Mdamba said that the center is part of Cuidades Estates Development in barangay Mandug, Buhangin district, 20 minutes north of the Davao City airport.
The 12 hectare sports facilities has a 20,000 seater Fifa standard artificial turf stadium as center piece, a natural grass training pitch and two other artificial grass training pitches.
The facilities also boast a 120 bed dormitory for home and visiting teams and a 180 room 3 star hotel for team officials.
The sports center does not only cater to the football community but also to other sports like basketball, volleyball, futsal and even badminton as it boasts a 12,000 seater multi-purpose sports arena.
The facilities also has bus parking areas and individual parking spaces for fans and visitors.
“The project would cost more than half a billion pesos. It is a very big ambition for the club. It is first of its kind. I do not know of any other team yet who has gonna been doing it. It is as big as the Davao Aguilas, so be proud and good luck,’’ Madamba said.
Madamba is renowned architect in the country for building sports facilities. The renovation of the Rizal Memorial Football stadium and the University of San Carlos Sports stadium in Talamban Cebu city are among his projects. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
