NOFA Kids Advance to Semis vs Laos, Thailand

OFF TO SEMIS. THE NOFA BACKED PH BOYS 12 TEAM AND FANS CELEBRATE AFTER DOWNING CAMBODIA 9-0.

THE NOFA backed Ph Boys 12 football team proved to all that with proper program and long preparation, our young players can excel in an international competition.

This after the young Filipino booters, backed by NOFA president Ricky Yanson, advanced to the semis of the ‘Soong Ching Ling Cup’-ASEAN China Invitational football in Xianghe, China after securing a lopsided 9-0 win over Cambodia.

The NOFA kids topped Group A with two wins and a draw. They whipped host and powerhouse China Tuesday morning 3-0 and then drew with Indonesia 1-1 in the afternoon.

FIRST EIGHT

China also advanced in their group when the host ripped Indonesia, 3-1.

The Filipinos will meet Group B top teams Laos and Thailand in the modified semis final round where the remaining four teams will play a single round robin and the top two advancing to the championship. The remaining two teams will play for the third place.

The losers group will also play a single round robin to determine the fifth, sixth, seventh and eight placers in this 8-sided tournament organized by the Soong Ching Ling Foundation to promote relations between China and the ASEAN member nations.

According to assistant coach Noel de Oca the Filipinos played a well balanced offensive game from start to finish to outplay the Cambodians.

“The performance of the reserves were as good as the starting eight,’’ De Oca, a National Coke Go-For-Goal veteran said.

He added that they have to rest their key players Viggo Luis Herce, EJ Sinconiegue, Lucas Andan and Julio Antonio Yoldi after leading by four goals at the half, to prepare them for the semis matches.

Kurt Sarip, Miel Dee Marcon and Yoldi scored two goals each for the Filipinos while Jed Amiel Tan, Rafael Manuel Garcia, and Anthony Joseph Galve chipped in one goal each.

Delegation head Andrew Infante was glad that the NOFA kids played very well. “They had a good rest that is why they played with the same intensity of their first game against China.’’

The NOFA kids started with Matthaeus Lim between the post, Viggo Herce, Rafael Manuel Garcia and EJ Sinconiegue at defense, Jax Peña and Lucas Andan at midfield and Kurt Sarip and Julio Antonio Yoldi up front.

The coaching staff Cocoy Treyes, Reggie Miraflor and De Oca used all the players including Jed Amiel Tan, Elijah Zedric Ballesteros, Breindel Medina, Anthony Joseph Galve, Miel Dee Marcon, Jan Emmanuelle Salceda, and Adrian Patrick Bacolod. (l.biantan@gmail.com)
