AFTER a rousing 3-0 debut win against China, and drawing, 1-1, with Indonesia, the Negros Football Association (NOFA) backed Philippine Boys 12 team will gun for a place in the semis in the ongoing ‘Soong Ching Ling Cup’-ASEAN China Invitational football in Xianghe, China.
FIRST EIGHT BEFORE THE INDONESIA CLASH
The young lads of Philippine football which were assembled by NOFA president Ricky Yanson right after the NOFA Cup 13 Under Invitational tournament last summer will clash with Cambodia Tuesday (Aug. 14) to insure themselves of a place in the semis on Wednesday.
Once again the young Filipinos had to lean on the deadly penalty skills of their designated kicker and team captain Earl Siconiegue of Bago City, Negros Occidental to salvage one point after a 1-1 stalemate.
Siconiegue also scored the first goal from the spot against China in the morning.
A defensive error at the left flank allowed Indonesia to score in the first half forcing the Filipinos to press for an equalizer in the second half.
And that equalizer in the second half came from the penalty spot when Jax Peña was fouled by an Indonesian defender inside the penalty box.
Siconiegue calmly kicked the ball off the outstretched hands of the Indonesian keeper into the back of the net to insure the draw and the point.
THE LADS WARMING UP
“The boys were tired after their match against China but thank God they managed to recover and secured the draw,’’ said the head of delegation Andrew Infante of NOFA.
He also added that the first half was 50-50 but the Filipinos dominated the second half and managed to score only one goal. He credits the Indonesian goalkeeper for saving many attempts which was around 15. “Their keeper was big, tall and good,’’ he said.
He added they will aim to win against Cambodia and score as many goals as they could. The Cambodia vs NOFA Philippines match is set at 930 a.m. on Aug. 14.
AFTER SECURING ONE POINT AGAINST INDONESIA
THEY LOOK FORWARD TO A CLASH VS CAMBODIA
Cambodia suffered a 0-7 thrashing from the hands of China also in the afternoon. China and Indonesia will also play a very important match against each other on Aug. 14.
