Westridge Sports Park in Bgry, Carmen, the prime football venue here in Cagayan de Oro City, is organizing various football tournaments for young kids starting next year.
Venue owner and property developer Edgardo Sytiongsa said that in-line of the coming Fifa World Cup in Russia in June next year he has decided to organize various tournaments to continue the football development of the youngsters of the City of Friendship.
He added that starting this January he has lined up tournaments for public, private and various football clubs for different categories.
Sytiongsa also the owner of the Golden Village subdivision in Bgry. Carmen, also stressed that he wants to follow what he saw during his visit to London recently where he saw kids from different level of age and skills playing football with their various teams in a football park.
These kids he said were with their parents and bring with them their own football. “If only we have that interest here then we can produce more football players,’’ he said.
He also added that these tournaments would definitely bring interests to the kids to play football. “What is important is that the kids should be interested and should have passion to play the beautiful game,’’ he said.
He also said that it is also up to the organizers and the parents to ignite the interests of the kids to play football. “Once there are more tournaments for them, then it is easier for them to get interested and get passionate with football,’’ he said.
Westridge was built from a golfing driving range in 2012. Since then it has become a regular venue for local and national tournaments. It has hosted the Pinay In Action (PIA) Cup National Ladies tournament in 2015 and 2016. The Milo Cup was also held in the venue.
The venue also hosted several seven-a-side football festivals like the Davao Aguilas Sun*Star Football Cup, the Magis Cup, and the most recent Prince Russel Cup. It also hosted the NMRAA football tournament just recently. (email@example.com)
